AARP - A membership organization leading positive social change and delivering value to people age 50 and over through information, advocacy and service.

Administration on Aging  - Provides information on services to the elderly, especially to enable them to remain independent.

Administration for Community Living - The Administration on Community Living seeks to enhance and improve the broad range of supports that individuals may need to live with respect and dignity as full members of their communities. These support needs go well beyond health care and include the availability of appropriate housing, employment, education, meaningful relationships and social participation.

Benefits Check Up - 
Answer some questions to find benefit programs that can help you pay for medications, health care, food, utilities and more. All from a reliable and trusted source.

DrugWatch - An awareness group that aims to educate the public about prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and medical devices that have the potential to cause patients serious harm.

Eldercare Locator  - 
A public service of the U.S. Administration on Aging connecting you to services for older adults and their families.  You can also reach them at 1-800-677-1116.

Family Caregiver Alliance  - 
Founded in 1977, Family Caregiver Alliance was the first community-based nonprofit organization in the country to address the needs of families and friends providing long-term care at home. Long recognized as a pioneer in health services, FCA now offers programs at national, state and local levels to support and sustain caregivers.

Meals on Wheels  - 
The Meals On Wheels Association of America is the oldest and largest national organization composed of and representing local, community-based Senior Nutrition Programs in all 50 U.S. states, as well as the U.S. Territories.

National Council on Aging  - 
We are a national voice for older Americans and the community organizations that serve them. We bring together nonprofit organizations, businesses, and government to develop creative solutions that improve the lives of all older adults. 

Senior Living Map  - 
To view senior and assisted living facilities in a particular area, simply enter the city or zip and click search. The map will zoom into that area and provide an aerial view of facilities located there. Each senior living facility will be marked with a pin on the map. When you click on a pin, you will be provided with details of that community. In the left hand column, there will be five filters. By selecting any of the filters you'll narrow the options displayed to just senior care homes that meet that criteria.

What is 2-1-1?
• Confidential telephone assistance provided by trained call specialists.
• Access for persons who have special needs. 
• Accurate information about community resources.
• Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• Toll free telephone call from Lake, Porter, Newton, Jasper, Starke, and Pulaski counties

Dialing 2-1-1 is your your first step. 2-1-1 is a simple number to dial for information about health and human service organizations in your community. Dial 2-1-1 from your phone, to speak with a live Call Specialist. The Call Specialist will empower the caller by referring and educating them about government programs, community-based organizations, support groups, and other local resources The Call Specialist will advocate on the behalf of those unable to help themselves.

Starke County Veterans Service Officer

U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski encourages all military veterans to contact their county Veterans Service Officer to help fill out their claims, answer their questions and serve as their advocate with the VA.

Office Hours
Monday, 8:00am – 4:00pm
The Veterans Service Office is in the annex building, which is just north of the courthouse. Easy to find, you just walk straight in, the Veterans Service Office is to the right, just past the canteen.

Agency Functions
Assist veterans and their dependents will all benefits available to them, such as compensation, pension, death pensions, burials, home loans, eligibility, hospitalization, education, tax abatement, admission to veterans home and many others.

If you're having issues with the VA, you can also call Sharon Christophel in Jackie Walorski's field office. Her telephone number is 574-204-2645.

Senior Center Meals

Hot nutritious meals served five days a week to seniors 60 and over, at two locations. A minimum donation of $2.00 would be appreciated.
 
311 E. Culver Rd. Knox. The meal is served at 12:00 PM.

Site is open 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

North Judson Senior Center at 105 E Talmer Ave, North Judson. The meal is served at 12:00 PM.
To make reservations call 896-3665 the day prior
Site is open 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM for activities.
