The demolition of 205 and 207 Lane Street in Downtown North Judson is complete. Crews began tearing down the partially-collapsed structure last Monday, and they were done by the end of the week, according to Clerk-Treasurer Alicia Collins.

She says eight bags of asbestos were removed, as part of the process. The two asbestos contractors were only on site for two days, which Collins says helped save the town some money.

Meanwhile, the building’s windows have been given to someone who plans to repurpose them. Selling the windows was seen as a way for the town to recoup a small portion of the demolition cost.

Collins says the contractors were recognized during this week’s town council meeting. Council members also approved the payment of $96,499 to demolition contractor Dirt Works Excavating.

Now with the safety hazard removed, Collins says the site is open and is now basically a stone parking lot. She says nothing else will happen with the property until a final court hearing takes place in November.
